Winner of the 2020 Qatar Car of the Year (QCOTY) awards, the original MG HS, introduced in 2018, redefined the British-Chinese brand's image and achieved remarkable sales success.
Arriving almost six years after its predecessor, the second-generation 2025 MG HS brings a clean sheet, sharper exterior style, a spacious yet heavily updated cabin, a suite of updated hi-tech gadgets, and a choice of 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter turbocharged drivetrain options to better compete with its rivals in the ever-competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Exterior
Penned from a clean sheet, the 2025 MG HS sets itself apart from its predecessor with fresh front and rear fascias. The second-generation HS has undergone a complete overhaul inside and out, while maintaining a clear connection to the styling of the third-generation MG RX5, thanks to the common lighting units and shared metal profile.

Looking more sportier and bolder than the outgoing model, the all-new MG HS features a wider grille flanked by two slimmer “Hunting Eye” LED headlights. The distinctive hood creases, sharp LED taillights, a choice of 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes, and elevated ground clearance complete the sporty exterior look. It is safe to say that the high-riding vehicle is one of the most appealing SUVs currently available on the market. Customers can choose between six exterior colors, including white, silver, red, grey, blue, and black.
In terms of dimensions, the 2025 MG HS is 4630 mm long, 1890 mm wide, and 1663 mm tall, with a 2750 mm long wheelbase—it is 14 mm wider, 26 mm longer, and 30 mm lower than its predecessor!

Engine and Performance
In the Middle East, the 2025 MG HS is offered in two turbocharged engine options: a responsive 1.5-liter and a powerful 2.0-liter. The entry-level is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, delivering 170 hp (122 kW) and 275 Nm of torque. The four-cylinder mill is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), allowing the mid-size SUV to reach a top speed of 195 km/h.
If anyone feels like the new HS with the 1.5-liter engine needs a bit more grunt, they could opt for the bigger one. The higher trim levels get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 227 hp and 370 Nm of torque. Linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission, the larger 2.0-liter engine allows the HS to hit a top speed of 220 km/h.
Both engines are only available with a front-wheel drive system. In terms of the suspension, the new HS rides on a MacPherson-strut front suspension and a rear multi-link setup. This layout leans toward comfort rather than sheer performance.

Our Verdict
The 2025 MG HS redefines value as a family SUV that offers more than you’d expect for the price. With its spacious, upscale interior, advanced tech features, comprehensive safety suite, and a choice of potent 1.5L or 2.0L turbo engines, this mid-size SUV stands out in its class.
