BMW M3 and BMW X5 M selected to be Official Safety Cars at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar 2017

Alfardan Automobiles – the official importer of BMW in Qatar – celebrated the successful conclusion of the BMW brand’s thirteenth consecutive year as the official safety cars of MotoGP Grand Prix of Qatar 2017, with the BMW X5 M and BMW M3.

Riders, officials and organizers of the premier Grand Prix motorcycle race event, which took place at the Losail International Circuit, from 25th till 26th of March, also enjoyed a weekend of premium BMW models, with a fleet of luxury models featured throughout the event for chauffeuring and other transportation needs. Additionally, the BMW X6M, BMW X5 M and BMW M6 Gran Coupe were displayed during the event.

Together with BMW M GmbH, Alfardan Automobiles celebrated the launch and start of the grand prix season with an exclusive event, in which media representatives and customers were invited to attend the race at the Alfardan Automobiles VIP lounge.

“Alfardan Automobiles has gone from strength-to-strength in Qatar, continuing our successful partnership for the thirteenth year running with the internationally focused MotoGP. We continue to be committed to supporting and promoting Qatar’s ever expanding sporting calendar” said Ihab Allam, General Manager of Alfardan Automobiles.

Both models had been modified before they made their way to Losail International Circuit. Low-slung and broad-set, the BMW M3 and BMW X5 M both share a finely balanced stance on the road. The M-specific design of the two high-performance sports cars underlines their performance capability. Large air intakes and Air Curtains at the front end and aluminium body components, and the diffuser at the muscular rear end are not merely design flourishes; they also fulfil functional roles in terms of aerodynamics, cooling and weight saving.

The BMW M3 is fitted with a free-revving straight-six engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and 317 kW/431 hp provides the power. Rigorously applied intelligent lightweight design elements include the extensive use of lightweight materials such as CFRP and aluminium for many chassis and body components. All of which has shaved around 80 kilograms off the weight of its predecessor.

With the latest M TwinPower Turbo engine, the BMW X5M has the most powerful engine ever developed by BMW for an all-wheel-drive vehicle. Boasting innovative M TwinPower Turbo technology with a pair of TwinScroll turbochargers, cross-bank exhaust manifolds, VALVETRONIC and High Precision Direct Petrol Injection, the 4.4-litre V8 produces maximum output of 423 kW/575 hp.
